BRICS International School Held in Delhi
The results of the BRICS International School: New Generation, which was held in Delhi, proved that young people have become key participants in the global dialogue. The event brought together 200 young leaders from leading universities and expert centres in India. The programme was organised by the BRICS Expert Council–Russia, based at HSE University, together with the Russian House in New Delhi with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
In March 2026, the largest programme in the history of the BRICS International School: New Generation was implemented at the Russian House in New Delhi. Young ‘brixologists’ have started their careers and become part of a global movement aimed at developing and popularising BRICS.
The programme is timed to coincide with India's BRICS presidency. Two hundred young leaders from 80 leading universities, expert centres, and public and youth organisations in India took part in the event. All of them joined the global alumni network, becoming BRICS ambassadors.
Over two days, the participants took part in a rich programme of lectures, discussions, and presentations on the role of BRICS in modern international relations. Russian and Indian experts representing leading scientific and educational centres in the two countries shared their knowledge. The topics covered a wide range of issues, from politics and security to economics, sustainable development, innovation, and humanitarian cooperation.
At the opening ceremony, Victoria Panova, Vice Rector of HSE University, Head of the BRICS Expert Council–Russia, and Sherpa of the Russian Federation in the Women's Twenty (W20), highlighted the key role of young people in shaping future international cooperation. ‘When we talk about the BRICS School and how it’s important that you are here, we mean that BRICS is primarily about you. And now you will determine how significant and in demand this platform will be in the coming years. This school gives you an opportunity not only to get to know each other and make friends, but also to become part of a wide network of young people from all BRICS countries and far beyond their borders,’ said Victoria Panova.
Mikhail Pontser, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India, emphasised the importance of involving young people in shaping global governance. ‘I appeal to all of you bright young minds to actively participate in this dialogue and bring bold ideas and fresh views to it. It’s your energy that BRICS needs to build the multipolar, just, and inclusive future that we all strive for,’ he said.
Elena Remizova, Head of the Russian House in New Delhi, stressed the importance of educational initiatives and dialogue with young people for strengthening cooperation between the BRICS countries. ‘We are very pleased to see so many young guests at the Russian House today, because youth is the future of our countries. And together with you, we have to decide what this future will be. In the year of India's BRICS presidency, it is especially important to hold such events. Here, young people from different countries can meet, discuss important issues, and get motivated for their further development,’ she addressed the event participants.
Victoria Panova delivered a lecture on the role of BRICS in the world. She spoke about the main goals and objectives of the association, the conditions for the formation of a dialogue between the countries, the expansion process, key projects, and prospects for the development of BRICS. Visitors to the HSE University stand could learn more about educational opportunities and discussed prospects for academic cooperation.
The second day was dedicated to an in-depth analysis of cooperation between the countries of the association. Dr Binod Singh Ajatshatru, Director of the BRICS Institute (India), presented the priorities of India's BRICS presidency in 2026. Then the participants discussed bilateral relations between Russia and India with the participation of Rajendra Singh Yadav, Director of the Centre for Strategic Studies & Simulation (CS3) at the United Service Institution of India (USI of India), Jagannath Panda, expert on geopolitics and Series Editor for Routledge Studies on Think Asia, and Alexey Kupriyanov, Head of the Centre of the Indo-Pacific Region at IMEMO RAS.
Igor Makarov, Director of the HSE Institute for the Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change, delivered a lecture on the trends in sustainable development. He noted that achieving SDGs requires significant investments in clean technologies, infrastructure, education, and social systems.
Economic cooperation between the BRICS countries was the topic of a discussion with Surender Kumar, Professor at the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, and Ajay Dubey, Distinguished Fellow at the Chintan Research Foundation (CRF), President of the African Studies Association of India (ASA India).
Ivan Timofeev, Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council, delivered a lecture on the potential of BRICS to address global challenges. Govind Kelkar, Executive Director of the GenDev Centre for Research and Innovation LLP, spoke about India's role in the technological development of BRICS in a TED Talk format.
Anastasia Ilyushina, Chief Coordinator on Youth Affairs at the Russian House in New Delhi and graduate of the BRICS International School, presented opportunities for young people in Russia to the participants. At the end of the event, the participants were awarded certificates and joined the global alumni network to continue working on other BRICS initiatives.
The event also hosted the first junior programme for schoolchildren, which was attended by 60 students from 15 schools in Delhi. The programme included interactive lectures, quizzes, presentations, and meetings with graduates of the BRICS School. The participants got acquainted with the history of the association, youth diplomacy projects, and educational opportunities.
At one of the sessions, the students talked with representatives of HSE University. Tatiana Gremyakina, Manager of the Centre for International Student Mobility and Educational Projects, told the participants about the university and its educational model. ‘HSE students participate in individual and team projects, often in partnership with companies that turn to the university to solve urgent problems. The university actively supports innovation through student competitions, conferences of young researchers, open lectures, and online courses,’ she explained.
At the end, the students got acquainted with the university's Moscow campus through a virtual tour.
BRICS International School: New Generation is the flagship educational project of the BRICS–Expert Council Russia based at HSE University. It focuses on forming a talent pool of young professionals from the BRICS countries and their partners. The project has been implemented since 2017 with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In April 2026, HSE University welcomed an official delegation from Nazarbayev University. The visit primarily focused on establishing cooperation between the two universities, expanding partnership ties, and developing joint projects in support of strengthening bilateral relations between Russia and Kazakhstan.
‘Meet Professors, Gain Experience’: Uzbek Lyceum Students Undertake Placement at HSE
The fourth off-site school organised under the Lyceum Classes project has taken place with the support of HSE University and implemented by the HSE Department of Internationalisation. This year, 79 students from International House Tashkent and Interhouse Lyceum came to HSE. The programme includes an introduction to the university, the opportunity to attend classes, and tours around Moscow.
'What Impressed Me Most Was the Highly Active and Energetic Group of Students'
Sankha Basu, Assistant Professor at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Delhi), taught a course at the Spring School 'Logic, Linguistics and Formal Philosophy' hosted by the International Laboratory for Logic, Linguistics and Formal Philosophy. This was his first visit to a Russian university, and he shared his impressions with the HSE News Service.
HSE University Installs Geoscan Station at IIT Bombay
A Russian ground station for receiving SONIKS satellite data has been installed on the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). Developed by Geoscan, the system will become part of a mirror laboratory project run jointly by HSE University and one of India’s leading universities.
‘It Is a Great Honour for Us to Be Partners’
In late March 2026, an official meeting took place between a delegation from HSE University and delegations from Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU); the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; and the Embassy of Vietnam in the Russian Federation. The participants discussed key areas of cooperation that will help strengthen ties not only between the universities, but also between the two countries.
HSE Holds Exams, Quizzes, and Selection Rounds for School Students in Tashkent and Bishkek
More than 3,000 international school students took part in the INTO HSE International Olympiad, whose award ceremonies were held in Tashkent and Bishkek in March 2026. The university’s outreach events also included final examinations, presentations of academic programmes, and on-site selection tests for prospective applicants. In Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, nearly 200 participants received diplomas as winners and prize-winners. The best of them will be eligible to apply for state-funded places at HSE.
HSE to Launch Laboratories in Space Research and Nanoelectronics with One of India’s Top Universities
Scientists from the HSE University and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) will carry out joint research in the storage, transmission, and processing of data in space systems. A second major project will be a laboratory for superconducting spintronics—a promising field in modern nanoelectronics.
‘BRICS Leaders Expect a Genuine Transformation of Grain Trade Mechanisms’
On February 4–5, 2026, the HSE BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre (BRICS Competition Centre), together with the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA), held a meeting of the BRICS Working Group for the Research of Competition Issues in Food Markets in Cairo. The antimonopoly authorities agreed to launch a joint analysis of the grain sector to be conducted with the support of the BRICS Competition Centre and based on the centre’s research report. On the sidelines of the event, a cooperation agreement was also signed between the St Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange (SPIMEX) and the Egyptian Mercantile Exchange.
