Russia Ranks Eighth in the World by the Expenditure on Research and Development

In 2012 Russia spent 37.8 billion dollars on research projects (calculatied according to the rouble purchasing power parity).

The USA has been the world leader in research spending for the last 20 years, with their 2012 spending in this area totaling 453.5 billion dollars. Russia has been eighth in terms of spending since 2007.

The ranking was carried out by the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge. The figures are based on data from Rosstat, the OECD and UNESCO. Data for countries in absolute figures are published in the data book Science and Technology Indicators.
