Transformation of Education: The Perspective of the "University Development" Laboratory
From November 7 to 9, the III Tomsk International Forum "Transformation of Education" took place, during which the staff of the "University Development" Laboratory organized a platform and delivered presentations.
Expedition to Sakhalin Island
In early October, the team from the Project Educational Laboratory "University Development," as part of the "Rediscovering Russia" program, traveled to Sakhalin Island with students from various educational programs at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) to explore the region's development prospects through education and culture.
Higher Education in the Ivanovo Region Through the Eyes of Students: An Expedition Took Place
From May 26 to June 2, 2024, a team of researchers from HSE embarked on a student expedition to the Ivanovo Region, focusing on the development of the interuniversity campus in the city of Ivanovo and higher education in general.
Problems of Arctic Development
The Arctic is not only a strategic outpost in geopolitical affairs, but also a region with difficult living conditions. At the same time, global warming causes melting of glaciers and permafrost, changes in terrain, environmental pollution and negatively affects the living conditions of indigenous peoples. These and other topics were discussed at the session ‘Problems of Arctic Development’ at the XXIII Yasin (April) International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development.
Discovering Russia from the Inside and Out
At the end of February, the HSE IGITI Research Centre for Contemporary Culture hosted a roundtable entitled ‘Field Studies in Russia: A Country Familiar and Foreign’. Roundtable participants talked about field work methods and standards, research challenges, and ways to solve them. The participants also discussed the extent to which it is possible to apply international experiences and approaches to field work in Russia as well as ways to study Russia from within and without.
HERB 3(21): Teaching and Learning: in Search for Balance

Exploring Student Perceptions of University Mergers
A recent study by IOE expert Ksenia Romanenko looks at how students perceive changes that take place across the academic and organizational domains as a result of university mergers. The paper has been published in the latest issue of Higher Education in Russia and Beyond, a joint project between HSE and Boston College Center of International Higher Education.
