HSE University and Pacific National University Sign Research Agreement
The parties concluded the agreement on November 29 in Moscow at HSE University’s campus on Pokrovsky Bulvar. The document was signed by Pacific National University Rector Yury Marfin and HSE University Vice Rector Dmitry Zemtsov.
The cooperation covers collaborative studies into young people in the Russian Far East and the Arctic, the joint preparation of expert materials and research publications on young people’s life strategies and trajectories, and educational and youth policy.
‘One important goal to be jointly implemented under the agreement is the provision of sociological research support for the activities of universities in the Far East. It is no secret—and the president talks about this—that the Far East will be an ongoing challenge and prospect for Russia for the whole of the 21st century. Of course, this challenge must be met by a qualified workforce, young people who are currently finishing school in the Far East. It is very important that they can find a place for self-actualisation at home, in the Far East, in companies and enterprises that are developing today. Unfortunately, the objective reality is that applicants sometimes prefer to leave. It is vital to understand what drives young people and how to change their vector of interests,’ explained Yury Marfin.
‘The Far East is a great place for young people to start a career and purse self-fulfilment. In light of its dynamic development, the region needs talented and qualified early-career specialists capable of getting involved in the economy and moving it forwards. HSE University, and particularly the Institute of Education and the Youth Policy Laboratory, have accumulated extensive experience in conducting research on young people and their educational and life trajectories. I am confident that together with Pacific National University, we can find answers to the questions facing the region,’ said Dmitry Zemtsov.
