Campus news at HSE University

Fourth-year HSE students Ivan Safonov and Mikhail Anoprenko of the Faculty of Computer Science have won a bronze award in the International Collegiate Programming Contest. The competition finals were held in Moscow on October 5. Students from HSE University’s campuses in Moscow and St. Petersburg took part in the competition, with the team from Russia’s second city placing 19^th overall.

On September 29, the HSE Academic Council approved the Regulation on Scholarships for the Winners of the HSE University Student Research Paper Competition - 2021. The competition winners will now receive scholarships of 20,000 roubles per month.

Within the framework of the ‘Cartier & HSE: the Future is Youth’ meeting, a presentation dedicated to the partnership between the HSE campus in Saint Petersburg and a world-famous luxury jewellery house took place with the participation of Yanina Novitskaya, Managing Director of Cartier in Russia, Ukraine, and the CIS, and Sergey Kadochnikov, Director of the HSE Campus in St Petersburg.

The Faculty of Management at HSE Nizhny Novgorod plays an important role in transforming the city and the region, as well as in the development of its entrepreneurial ecosystem - thanks to its faculty, who engage in relevant research; its students and educational programmes that include social projects, as well as international conferences, which bring together local and international professionals to share knowledge and best practices. At the same time, the provision of management education itself faces two main challenges– how to combine education and a research agenda, and how to align its academic curriculum with market demands.

A report by students of MIEM has won a prestigious prize at the 44^th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing organized by Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic. The project by the HSE students was named the best student work by the organizing committee.

An animated video for the song ‘Time for Resentment’ by Mumiy Troll has been posted on the band’s official website. Athena Zhurba, 3rd-year Animation and Illustration student and author of the concept, directed this video.

ICEF hosted its first in-person graduation ceremony since the pandemic led to the restrictions. Diplomas were awarded to two classes. Hosted by HSE Cultures Centre, the day-long ceremony unfolded in sessions, one for bachelor’s students and one for master’s. Congratulating graduands  were the faculty of ICEF HSE and professors of the University of London (LU) and the London School of Economics (LSE).

The peak performance of the HSE cHARISMa supercomputer has doubled, reaching 2 petaflops (2 quadrillion floating-point operations per second). HSE University now outperforms the Kurchatov Institute in terms of computing power. The only more powerful university computers are MSU’s Lomonosov-2 and SPbPU’s Polytechnic. Thanks to the timely upgrade, cHARISMa has retained its respectable 6th position among the Top 50 most powerful computer systems in the CIS for three years.
