Education news at HSE University

HSE University, together with the world-class Neimark IT campus, is preparing a unique professional environment for future IT specialists: to this end, an IT school will be created in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and on September 1st, the first network degree programme ‘Artificial and Augmented Intelligence Technologies’ will be launched at HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod.

The new centre will operate as part of the Institute of Oriental and Classical Studies (IOCS) at the HSE Faculty of Humanities, and its flagship project will focus on the study of the language and oral folklore of Socotra Island. The centre is a trilateral international partnership between HSE University, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and a consortium of leading universities in the UAE. HSE Art and Design students, graduates, and curators have been participating in the World Brand Design Society international competition for several years. The winter of 2023/24 was no exception—several projects won in various categories.

Last week, university students from all over the country came to HSE University for the All-Russian Student's Tournament of Physicists. The tournament took the form of battles in which teams tackled physics problems while taking turns in the roles of speakers, opponents, and reviewers. Based on the competition results, the combined team 'Volume Dependence' emerged as the winner and will participate in the upcoming international tournament in Zurich.

HSE University has launched a Bachelor's Programme in Global Digital Communications. This new online programme from the School of Communication gives students meta-skills, teaches them to communicate with artificial intelligence and set tasks for it, develops critical thinking, and inspires teamwork in launching creative projects. Graduates of this course will be able to conduct analytical research using Python and SQL, as well as strategically approaching global communication tasks.

The Mathematical Algorithms and Modelling in Telecommunications workshop is a joint project of the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics and the YADRO company. In the workshop led by MIEM teachers and YADRO experts, HSE University students who successfully pass the selection process will look for solutions to pressing problems in the implementation of fourth- and fifth-generation mobile communications.

HSE and the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIMI) have agreed to open a mirror laboratory, determining their key priorities to be joint activities in the fields of nature conservation, research into environmental behaviour and sustainable development, and territorial branding in relation to Indian regions. The agreement on the new laboratory was reached during an ongoing visit by an HSE delegation to India.

HSE University took second place in the new 2023 ranking of universities in the digital economy in Moscow and St Petersburg, having lost only to Bauman Moscow State Technical University. HSE University outperformed specialised IT universities such as Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (third place) and ITMO University (fifth place), as well as Moscow State University (fourth place).
