‘Oh My, I’m Doing It Exactly that Way’: Non-Verbal Communication Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
On November 24, a unique event for HSE international students—a practice-oriented training session on ‘How to Make a Good Impression in an Interview: Non-Verbal Communication’—took place at HSE University. Natalia Trubnikova, author of the training, covered the basics of nonverbal communication and body language; non-verbal mistakes that lead to difficulties, misunderstandings and communication failures; cross-cultural features of sign language, speed and manner of gesticulation, speech features; nonverbal tips and tricks to convey your point of view, and much more. Together with the expert, HSE students worked on self-confidence and solved real communication cases.
Photography Week at the HSE Art and Design School: From Documentary to Fashion Photography
Photography Week took place on November 20–25 at the HSE Art and Design School. As part of the festival, the HSE ART GALLERY presented works by students of the Photography track from recent years, while CREATIVE HUB hosted a conference titled ‘Photography: More than Art.’
Master's Programme in 'Data Science' Accredited by AI Alliance Russia
Based on the assessment results, the programme's strengths were identified as its broad coverage of educational disciplines, in-depth exploration of theoretical aspects in machine learning, the quality of staff, and the involvement of potential employers. This is the fifth educational programme at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science to receive this prestigious professional and public accreditation.
Student Mobility Development: HSE University Delegation Visits Chinese University of Hong Kong
In early November 2023, a delegation from HSE University visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shenzhen. HSE University representatives took part in CUHK-Shenzhen 2023 International Partner Day and discussed the existing student exchange agreement with colleagues from China.
HSE Online Launches New Course on Algorithms and Data Structures
HSE Online has launched the course ‘Algorithms and Data Structures–1’. Its author, and director of theCentre of Student Competitions at the Faculty of Computer Science, Mikhail Gustokashin, will teach students not only to how to solve problems offered at interviews at IT companies, but also to apply their knowledge in practice. The main skill acquired as a result of this course is the ability to write effective, working and tested code. The course is taught in Russian.
HSE University Holds HSE Sber ML Hack
On November 17-19, The HSE Faculty of Computer Science, SBER and cloud technology provider Cloud.ru organised HSE Sber ML Hack, a hackathon based around machine learning. More than 350 undergraduate and graduate students from 54 leading Russian universities took part in the competition.
The ‘Grow with HSE University!’ Forum: ‘A Platform for Communication and Reinvigorating Ideas’
In late October, the ‘Grow with HSE University!’ forum was held in Moscow. The forum aimed at encouraging an exchange of best academic practices and cultivating cooperation between the University and various schools. Teachers and administrators from 76 regions of Russia and 16 countries took part. Over 3,500 people signed up for the forum, and even more people joined the events online. The plenary discussion alone was watched online by over 15,000 people.
HSE University and VK ‘Prostor’ Platform Launch Joint Programme in Music Management
HSE Art and Design School and VK's ‘Prostor’ platform have launched a joint educational course for those who dream of organising sold-out concerts and leading musicians to success. Participants on the free intensive courses of the music management programme ‘Prostor’ x ‘Sound Art and Sound Design’ will learn how to promote musicians, organise concerts, communicate with labels and launch collaborations with brands.
HSE University Hosts Fall into ML 2023 Conference on Machine Learning
Over three days, more than 300 conference participants attended workshops, seminars, sections and a poster session. During panel discussions, experts deliberated on the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and considered collaborative initiatives between academic institutions and industry to advance AI development through megaprojects.

HSE University in Nizhny recently hosted the 2nd Autumn Neuro-linguistic School ‘NeuroSciCom: Popularising Language and Brain Studies’ for scientists and students at the HSE Centre for Language and Brain Studies in Nizhny Novgorod. The school was held as part of the 'Human Brain Resilience: Neurocognitive Technologies for Adaptation, Learning, Development and Rehabilitation in a Changing Environment' Strategic Project of the Priority 2030 programme.
