Education News at HSE University

Since September of this academic year, the HSE International Prep Year (IPY) programme has offered a supplemental Russian language course for international students studying at HSE. It is designed for students who have successfully graduated from the preparatory programme and are now studying in undergraduate or graduate programmes at HSE on Russian government scholarships. The HSE News Service spoke with students about the course and learned how it is helping them in their studies at HSE.

An intellectual competition for secondary school students from all over the world who are lovers of science and technology will be held in Yakutia with the participation of HSE University. High school students from all over the world will gather for several days to participate in projects in the natural sciences and humanities led by scientists and scholars from around the world.

Students of HSE University – St Petersburg took part in the Global Covid Research Project of Connecticut College, devoted to the studies of the consequences of Covid pandemics in different spheres. Interdisciplinary teams representing five universities worked on their research skills and acquired the experience of international collaboration.

The HSE eLearning Office will participate in the international Coursera Conference. The event, hosted by Coursera, HSE's strategic partner in the global distance learning market, will take place from April 19 to 21. Ekaterina Zinkovskaya of HSE’s eLearning Office talks about the conference and what positions HSE holds in the field of distance education.

HSE University has been included in the rankings for the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering, which were published for the first time by the RAEX agency. 

Four students of the HSE University and University of London Double Degree Programme in Data Science and Business Analytics received the highest scores on London exams at the end of 2019/2020 academic year. Yunying Pei, Vasily Kireenko, Vladimir Zobov, and Ilya Zisman performed brilliantly in the statistics, business, and management tests.

Having partner companies is an important factor in the competitiveness of any Master’s programme. One of the partners of the programme ‘Germanica: History and Modernity’, which launched last year at the Faculty of Humanities, is the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce. Already in their first year of study, several students have been hired by the Chamber as interns.

In 2010, HSE University launched the Full-time Advanced Doctoral Programme, an innovative programme for doctoral students at that time. At the beginning of 2021, an alumna of the programme’s first cohort became the first programme graduate to earn her Doctor of Sciences degree: Elena Vakulenko, Assistant Professor at HSE University’s Faculty of Economic Sciences.
