Mohammed Yassir Ali Osman, from Sudan, is a doctoral student at the HSE Doctoral School of Sociology. He works as a research assistant at the Laboratory of Social and Demographic Policies at the Vishnevsky Institute of Demography and expounds upon the core arguments of his dissertation on the migration intention of African students in Russia. In this interview with the HSE News Service, Mohammed Yassir Ali Osman shares his research findings, analyses HSE's strategy for attracting African students, and elaborates on his future academic plans.

The competition will take place from October 26 to November 1, bringing together students from leading engineering universities and academics from Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. A group of HSE University students and teachers has returned from Jilin International Studies University, where the students took part in a summer language internship. A total of 85 undergraduate and postgraduate students from various faculties across all four HSE University campuses travelled to China. The programme included intensive Chinese language study, in-depth immersion in Chinese culture, history, and contemporary life, as well as ethnographic and recreational trips.

Research conducted by economists at HSE University has revealed a significant correlation between the regular use of GenAI in the workplace and higher pay among Russian employees. The study found that individuals who frequently use GenAI in their professional activities earn notably more than those who reject these new tools or resort to them occasionally. The salary premium for highly qualified specialists reaches 41.8%. The article was published in the Voprosy Ekonomiki journal.

In summer 2026, the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) took several steps towards establishing closer ties with leading Chinese universities. The Faculty signed a landmark memorandum with one of China’s top technical universities and also began talks with Peking University. In addition, the International Laboratory for Digital Transformation in Public Administration, affiliated with FSS, held an international summer school in Moscow with the participation of Chinese colleagues.

Engineers and researchers at the HSE Institute for Robotics Systems have successfully run the first tests of an AI-powered environmental recognition model deployed on a robot dog. The robot navigated around the HSE Pokrovka building and Pokrovsky Bulvar, analysing the surrounding environment to identify its location.
