THE Names HSE One of the Top 75 Young Universities
HSE University has placed 66th in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2022, which assess universities younger than 50 years old. The THE Young University Ranking is the first in a series of global rankings to be published in 2022.
The rankings use data from the last year and a refined methodology that accounts for the specifics of young universities that have not yet built up a historic reputation. HSE University consistently appears in the top 75 young universities in the world and shows positive dynamics in its indicators.
HSE University's indicators have improved in the fields of Research, Industry Income, and a number of indicators relating to teaching and international activities. The most influential indicator is Research, which accounts for one third of the total score. The ranking also includes such indicators as Reputation (12%), Research Income (9%), and Research Productivity (9%). HSE University’s Research Productivity score has improved by 16%, while its scores in the two other indicators have improved by 5% each. This highlights the fact that despite turning only 30 this year, HSE University is a young university with a good academic reputation.
The university has also improved its Industry Income score by 9%. This indicator reflects the level of willingness among businesses to pay for university-conducted research, as well as the university's ability to attract financing on the commercial market. HSE has also strengthened its international cooperation, increasing its share of international students and staff. Several indicators of academic activities have also improved, including academic reputation in this sphere.
Four other Russian universities appear alongside HSE in the published portion of the rankings: Siberian Federal University appears in the 301–350 group, Kazan National Research Technical University appears in the 351–400 group, and Moscow Polytechnic University and RANEPA appear in the 401+ group.
The Young University Rankings are a subset of the main World University Rankings. They assess universities founded no more than 50 years ago using the same indicators as the institutional rankings, but adjusted to reflect the specifics of young universities that have not yet built up the required academic reputation. Reputation accounts for 33% of the total score in the overall rankings and 22% in the Young Universities Rankings, with the remaining weighting distributed among the other indicators.
