Project Team of ‘Success and Self-Sustainability of the Individual in a Changing World’ Wins Russian Science Foundation Grant
Researchers from HSE University will receive funding from the Russian Science Foundation to study such forms of student employment as freelancing, self-employment, and entrepreneurship, all of which have been actively developing in recent years. The research will shed light on the new opportunities and challenges encountered by students and early-career specialists in the labour market. It will also aid in the development of effective strategies for their successful adaptation and development.
Scientists from HSE University in Perm Receive First Artificial Intelligence Patent
Aleksey Kychkin, a researcher at the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Empirical Studies (LINES), and Oleg Gorshkov, a research assistant at LINES, received a patent for a system that predicts the spatial distribution of harmful substances in atmospheric air using an artificial intelligence unit. The invention can be used for integrated planning and notification of the risks of atmospheric air pollution by harmful substances. The work was carried out under a grant from the HSE University Artificial Intelligence Centre. The HSE News Service spoke with Aleksey Kychkin about the benefits of the new system, its application, and how it came to life.
Students of HSE University’s GSB Present Results of Joint ESG Project with Big Business
HSE University’s Graduate School of Business has hosted the defence of the ‘Sustainable Development Practices’ term papers with an emphasis on the ESG agenda. First-year students of the Master’s programmes ‘Marketing: Digital Technology and Marketing Communications’ and ‘Retail Management’ presented group consulting projects on solving real-world cases with social and/or environmental issues from partner companies of the E+Change programme. This is the third year of this unique project between the GSB and E+Change, and is continuing to attract more and more participating companies.

The Russian Science Foundation has announced the results of the youth contests of the Presidential Programme. HSE University’s early-career researchers are receiving grants for research projects in economics, psychology, sociology, political science, law, mathematics, information science, optics, engineering, and ocean studies.
‘Everything Suggests That Our Experiment Was a Success, and We Will Continue’: First Graduation of HSE University’s Bachelor’s Programme in Chemistry
On July 5th, at HSE University’s Centre of Cultures, the first graduates of the Bachelor’s programme in Chemistry were awarded their diplomas. The programme was created in 2019 with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Studying at the new faculty, the young researchers have achieved impressive scientific results, with 21 graduates publishing 46 co-authored articles in international scientific journals.
Leading HSE University Scientists to Receive Grants from Ideas Research Centre for Neuroscience Research
The Ideas Centre for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research has announced the results of its 2023 competition. Five leading neuroscientists will receive grants to open graduate positions for early-career researchers who want to work on solutions to fundamental problems in this area. Three of the competition winners are scientists from HSE University: Matteo Feurra (HSE University in Moscow), Anastasia Kolmogorova (HSE University in St Petersburg), and Sofia Kulikova (HSE University in Perm).
‘Not an Ordinary Educational Programme, but a Whole Specialised Forum’
Financial Technologies and Data Analysis (FinTech), a joint Master’s programme from HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science and Sberbank, will have its fifth graduation this summer. The programme opened in 2017 and has become a major educational project for both the university and Sberbank. Students, partners, and teachers of FinTech explained what the programme is and why it is worth enrolling in.
Student of HSE Lyceum Wins Bronze at European Geography Olympiad
The 8th European Geography Olympiad took place in Serbia at the end of June. The results of the competition were announced individually in two age categories: the senior group (16–19 years old) and the junior group (12–15). The Russian team won three gold, two silver and three bronze medals. One of the bronze medal winners was Danila Gavrilov, student of the HSE Lyceum.
Students from Leading Universities Take Part in Hackathon Organised by MTS and HSE University
At the end of June, HSE University hosted Reklamathon, an inter-university hackathon in which participants must develop a prototype product for forecasting the effectiveness of advertising campaigns on social media. The event was organised by HSE University’s Data-Driven Communication master’s programme, which trains communications industry specialists. The hackathon’s assignments and judges were arranged by MTS, Russia’s largest digital ecosystem.
First-year HSE Students Take Prize in LDT-2023 Hackathon
HSE University’s team Algorithmic Heist was among the winners of the 5th-anniversary Leaders of Digital Transformation hackathon, one of the country’s major IT competitions. More than 7,000 programmers, analysts, designers, marketers, project engineers, and IT entrepreneurs from across Russia and 37 other countries took part in the hackathon. The competition ended with a three-day final and an award ceremony held in Moscow in mid-June.
