Software for Rapid Detection of Dyslexia Developed in Russia
HSE scientists have developed a software tool for assessing the presence and degree of dyslexia in school students based on their gender, age, school grade, and eye-tracking data. The application is expected to be introduced into clinical practice in 2024. The underlying studies were conducted by specialists in machine learning and neurolinguistics at the HSE AI Research Centre.

HSE Art and Design students, graduates, and curators have been participating in the World Brand Design Society international competition for several years. The winter of 2023/24 was no exception—several projects won in various categories.
HSE University among Top Universities in Digital Economy
HSE University took second place in the new 2023 ranking of universities in the digital economy in Moscow and St Petersburg, having lost only to Bauman Moscow State Technical University. HSE University outperformed specialised IT universities such as Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (third place) and ITMO University (fifth place), as well as Moscow State University (fourth place).

On February 5, 2024, the award ceremony for the winners and laureates of the Student Research Paper Competition (SRPS) 2023 took place. The competition received 1,730 papers in 25 categories from university students across Russia.

An article by researchers from HSE University’s Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology is among the most read articles published in the PeerJ journal in 2023. In the paper, the researchers establish a link between the genetic characteristics of the human immune system and its ability to effectively resist new waves of COVID-19. PeerJ is a peer-reviewed open access scientific journal covering research in the field of biological and medical sciences. Every year the editors compile a ranking of the most popular scientific papers.
HSE Creates ‘Transfer of Neurocognitive Technologies’ Consortium
HSE, the Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Centre, and the Centre for Speech Pathology and Neurorehabilitation of the Moscow Healthcare Department have signed an agreement on cooperation and the creation of a ‘neuro-consortium’ under the name ‘Transfer of Neurocognitive Technologies’. The new body will boost the development and implementation of advanced solutions in neurotechnology aimed at maintaining and improving people's health. The agreement was signed for five years, and the consortium is open to new participants.
‘I Am Proud of Our Teamwork’: HSE Students among Winners of International Law Competition
As part of the international forum ‘The Nuremberg Trials and Contemporary International Law’ in Minsk, an international competition for undergraduate and graduate students was held. A team from HSE University was among the winners. The competition was organised by the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus and MITSO International University.
130 HSE University Students Receive Scholarships under VK Education Subscription Programme
As a result of the annual VK scholarship programme, the students receive monthly payments and other bonuses for developing skills and growing professionally. HSE University Teams Win Gold and Three Bronzes in ICPC Semifinals
In December, the Northern Eurasia Regional Contests (NERC)—the semifinal of the ICPC international programming contest—took place. This year’s competition featured around 300 teams comprising 900 participants from Russia and other CIS countries. The contest took place simultaneously in St Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Astana, and Kutaisi. The majority of teams—a total of 152—took part in the competition at St Petersburg’s MTS Live Hall venue.
HSE University Students Become European Champions of Qatar’s Debate
Anton Klyuev, fifth-year student of the Bachelor’s in Asian and African Studies, and Artem Saenko, graduate of the same programme, have won the European round of the Qatar’s Debate competition, beating 11 teams from non-Arabic-speaking countries.
