Lev Manovich, Presidential Professor of computer science at the City University of New York and author of works on digital culture and new media, was one of the first foreign scholars to start remote work with HSE students this academic year. He is leading a project seminar at the Faculty of Humanities for students of the Bachelor’s programme in Cultural Studies.
‘I’m Happy That I’m Studying Law at HSE’
Ramin Babaev is in his second year of the Master's programme in Law of International Trade, Finance and Economic Integration. He came to Moscow from Baku, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Jurisprudence at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. HSE University Hosted a Career Marathon
On November 17th and 19th, HSE students and graduates, along with students from other universities, learned how to get a job in their dream company, which skills are highly valued by employers today, and how COVID-19 has changed the employment market. All these secrets were revealed as part of the HSE Career Marathon by representatives of such big companies as Procter & Gamble, SBER, BAT Russia, Deloitte, Coca-Cola HBC, VTB, Unilever, Alfa Bank, UNIQLO, MegaFon and others.
Students of HSE Faculty of Computer Science Win the Quarter Finals of the World Programming Championship
Third-year students of the Bachelor’s Programme in Applied Mathematics and Information Science Ivan Safonov, Ramazan Rakhmatullin, and Maxim Gorokhovsky won the Moscow Regional Contest—the first qualifying round of the international student world programming championship ICPC 2020/2021. In total, 45 HSE University took part, with 30 of them receiving certificates of various degrees.
HSE University to Host First Game Development Hackathon GAMEDEVTECH-2020 in December
A team competition organised by the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE) will feature two leagues — one for HSE University students and another for secondary school students. The Hackathon partners are ‘MY.GAMES’ an international gaming brand that is part of Mail.ru Group, the educational website ‘GeekBrains’, and the not-for-profit Institute for Digital Transformation of Education (IDTE).
Big Animation Festival Features 12 Works by HSE Art and Design School Students
This year’s Big Animation Festival featured a number of films by HSE Art and Design School students and curators. Out of 1,501 applications received from 89 countries, the Festival jury selected 95 films to participate in the Russian competition and 90 for the foreign one. Twelve works by students of the Bachelor’s Programme ‘Animation and Illustration’, as well as six animated films by curators of HSE University Art and Design School made it into the competition. HSE News Service spoke with some of the participants about making video clips for popular musical groups, inspiration, and the importance of festivals.

Every year a total of 20 graduate students in cognitive psychology receive this prestigious international award in psychology. Alexey Lukashkin, a graduate of a cotutelle doctoral programme in philology arranged by HSE University and the Sorbonne, defended his doctoral thesis before the HSE University Dissertation Council in Philology and Linguistics. On November 10th,HSE ART GALLERY opened an exhibition showcasing pieces by second-year students of the Master’s programme in ‘Contemporary Art’ under the supervision of famous Russian artist, Vladimir Dubossarsky. A special feature of the exhibition is its sound design: all the images are accompanied by compositions of sound artists, most of whom are also students of the HSEArt and Design School. They focused on the theme of forced relationships, the impact of the pandemic on the creative process, and the mixing of art forms.
