International Student Information Centre Launched for Indonesia and Malaysia
The Higher School of Economics has launched the HSE International Student Information Centre Office in Indonesia and Malaysia. The university is collaborating with ImageRnR-Indonesia, which acts as an educational promotion and marketing planner to promote HSE and act as the university’s representative in Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia.
Separate Plastic Collection for Recycling Available at HSE
The environmental student organization Green HSE has launched a service for the separate collection of plastic waste. Special yellow containers can be found across HSE buildings. For now only plastic bottles can be collected for recycling.
First Official Friend of HSE Receives Award
During his business trip to Pantheon-Sorbonne Paris 1 University, HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov awarded Michel Sollogoub with the first Friend of HSE statuette in the history of the Golden HSE Award.
Kenneth Arrow Dies at 95
Kenneth Joseph Arrow, who was an Honorary Professor of the Higher School of Economics and a Nobel Prize-winning economist, passed away on Tuesday, February 21st. He was 95.
HSE Launches Site in Chinese
HSE recently committed to developing a Chinese version of the university’s Admissions site, which is the result of a joint effort by the Online Media Unit, the School of Asian Studies, and Chinese students at HSE. Rather than a ‘brochure-type’ webpage, the site contains nearly all information needed for Chinese students to enrol in undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral programmes offered by HSE. This means that a prospective students from China are not only able to read about HSE, but to complete an online form and even check whether they can receive a scholarship.
Visiting Professors Speak on Norwegian Traditions
On February 15, 2017, professors from Norway delivered a series of lectures on the social, economic, political and cultural characteristics and traditions of their country as part of an initiative supported by the Norwegian embassy in Moscow and the University of Oslo, the oldest and largest Norwegian state university. With a strong tradition in the social sciences, the university has become a natural partner of the Higher School of Economics. Leidulv Namtvedt, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Norway to Russia was present at the event.
Trip to Saint Petersburg Inspires US Students
A group of 20 undergraduates from the United States visited St. Petersburg, 'the northern Venice', this January, taking part in a programme that blended the history, society and culture of the Russian Empire’s capital. Participants arrived from Mount Holyoke College and Smith College, opting to spend two weeks of their winter holidays here (6 – 22 January) learning about this city. Participants were diverse in their fields of studies, Russian knowledge, and travel experience, some even choosing this trip as their first chance to travel outside the borders of the United States.
Student Research Competition 2016 Winners Awarded at HSE
This year students from other Russian and international universities competed against HSE students. The new HSE project ‘Scientific Battles’ was also announced at the award ceremony.
Governance in STI Programme Proves to be Right Fit for Delhi Native
After completing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering in his native Delhi, India, Shashank Pant began searching for a Master’s programme that would provide a balance between management and science. HSE’s Governance in STI programme turned out to be what he was looking for as he prepares for an eventual career in innovation at a multinational corporation.
New HSE Symphony Orchestra in Search of Talent
In December 2016, an orchestra was formed at HSE whose musicians include both lecturers and students – and not only from HSE. The artists, who are mastering a broad repertoire from classical operas to film soundtracks, are preparing to play at non-university venues and are inviting new participants to join them.
