In 2017, the HSE Faculty of Computer Science and Skoltech are opening admissions to the Master’s programme inStatistical Learning Theory, which will become the successor to theMathematical Methods of Optimization and Stochastics programme.Vladimir Spokoiny, the programme’s academic supervisor and professor of mathematics at Humboldt University in Berlin, told us about the research part of the new programme and the opportunities it offers to both Master’s students and undergraduate students alike.

HSE’s Faculty of Humanities is launching a new Master’s programme on teaching Russian as a foreign language. Olga Eremina, Academic Director of the programme, told the HSE News Service why the programme will be taught in two languages and who ‘heritage language learners’ are, as well as why the labour market for the programme’s graduates will be expanding.

Jazmin Quevedo Cascante, a native of Bolivia, graduated this year from HSE Preparatory Year Programme and is currently pursuing her Master’s in the Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation. Although it took some time to adjust initially, after only a short period studying in HSE’s Applied Social Psychology programme, Ghana native Ebenezer Yao Wepari is certain that attending HSE has been among the best decisions he has made in life.

Students of the ‘Media production in Creative Industries’ MA programme who have just published several digital collections, spoke about how to produce a book in two months. The lecturers shared their opinion on the challenges and difficulties of the course, and the writers and publicists – on their experience of participating in the project.

In 2017, HSE will enroll students in 216 undergraduate and master’s programmes, including over 20 English-taught programmes. The application period for international students to HSE graduate and undergraduate programmes opened on November 1. This year, there are three application rounds. The final deadline is July 1, 2017.

In 2017, the HSE Vysokovsky Graduate School of Urbanism is debuting its English-language master’s programme Prototyping Future Cities. The programme is based on the idea of learning by doing, and it is open to students from all over the world. In an interview with the HSE News Service, Vicente Guallart, who is the Academic Supervisor of the Laboratory for Experimental Urban Design, former Chief Architect of Barcelona City Council, and head of the programme, discusses exactly how it will work.

This year HSE has launched a new English-taught MA programme ‘Linguistic Theory and Language Description’, which has evolved from a specialization on the Computer Linguistics programme.
